Josef Marcolin very soon developed his own ideas and 1954 he was invited to Sweden to give new impulses to their glass-industry. Following years he learned the quality of crystal, worked among famous swedish designers and started to scultpure in stylized forms, using ancient techniques combined with modern scandinavian designs.
Always with the princip of doing it his own way (his favorite song is Frank Sinatra´s "My way”), 1960 he started his own atelier in Ronneby, Sweden - together with his brother Benito Marcolin. Followed by years of hard work, he created wonderful figurines and sculptures. Like a painter, he was the very first world-wide artist, to use powderized crystal colors to achieve various interesting effects inside the clear crystal, giving life to each piece. Additional pure 24c gold and pure silver was and still is inserted.
Soon Marcolin Art Crystal, sold in exclusive stores and galleries world-wide, established a “brandname” for freehandsculptured art-crystal in over 24% lead.
At his now experienced stage of age, he returned to his homeland and is still physically involved in the Marcolin creations, each year with new designs and techniques surprising the crystal world (please click here for one example-video). He is right now collaborating with the ColleVilca factory in Tuscany, one of the few italian factories working in over 24% lead handsculptured art-crystal.
During his long professional career Josef Marcolin received many diplomas and awards, among them given by the King of Sweden Carl XVI. Gustaf. His works are shown in many glass museums and he is a "Fellow" of the famous "Corning Museum of Glass", Corning, New York, USA.
